Conversations with Lindsey

For those of you who don’t know, my girlfriend’s name is Lindsey. She is amazing. This is a conversation we had after 9 pm (and well into her seventh bag of Frango Chocolates).

Me: Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?

Lindsey: …

Me: Babe, are you alive over there?

Lindsey: Oh, yea, sorry. I was just using this time to reflect…

Me: On…?

Lindsey: Actually, I was wondering…why do you get up so early in the morning when you don’t have to be at work until 8:30?

Me: I have a long drive, curly hair, and four dogs?

Lindsey: I know, but you get up, pee, press the blue button on the coffee maker, open up the back door to let all four dogs out at once, and then sit on your ass and drink coffee for an hour and a half.

Me: I also get dressed.

Lindsey: In pants and a shirt.

Me: Don’t forget about socks.

Lindsey: Yea, I guess it does take you forever to pick out socks.

Back to reflecting…

Me: It’s important to make a good impression.

Lindsey: All I’m saying is, why so you wake up so early just to walk to a different room and sit there?

Me: Because I need time to wake up.

Lindsey: Buuuut…if you used that time to sleep you wouldn’t be so tired. Why not use that time to sleep?

Me: Because then I would be an hour and a half late for work everyday.

These are the times when we have really poignant conversations. But, here’s the thing people…it takes me hours to wake up and hours to fall asleep. Am I the only person in the world who does this?

  1. I am the exact opposite. I can jump out of bed in the morning. And fall right asleep at night. (Unless I am anxious about something.) But midday, I find myself extremely sleepy. When I went through a long period of being anxious and not being able to sleep I trained my brain to fall asleep to Crystal Castles. It worked awesome. But now, anytime I hear them I have to fight the urge of crashing out.

    • I wonder if our brains are just wired that way. It’s so weird. I never feel sleepy throughout the day. And, falling asleep at night is like a two hour event. Lindsey rolls over, and she’s out. I’m so jealous of you guys!
